The hot water really smells bad…

Odors are one of the most difficult things to treat for in water. Sometimes there are several sources for the odor in the same plumbing system. Usually the odor is worse in the Hot water than in the cold. If the cold water doesn’t smell at all, it is possible that the odor is being generated by an anode rod in the tank.

These anodes can be replaced with an odor resistant type, and after chlorinating the tank and hot water pipes the odor can quite often disappear. This won’t always solve the problem but it is a good place to start. So if your hot water really smells bad start by replacing the anode rod and enjoy your great water!
