What is that Thing in the Basement???

One of the most common questions we get from new service customers is, “what is that thing in the basement”. Most Water Treatment Companies don’t put a lot of emphasis on service. This tends to lead to water treatment systems that are abandoned at installation, and receive little or no service.

At Secondwind we keep a computerized database of information on each site we service or install water treatment equipment at. Post cards go out on the anniversary of the installation to the customer in an attempt to stay in touch with our customer base, and to remind our customers of the manufacturers recommendations for maintenance.

This unfortunately doesn’t help if you purchased an existing system from a different company, or a home with a system already in place. Usually in a situation like this we will suggest that we send out a Technician to perform a System assessment at the site. If we end up performing actual service then the cost of the assessment is rolled into the service cost. If we just figure out what you have for equipment and give you a walk-through then its only $95. It’s a small price to pay to find out what that thing is down in the basement, especially if it makes a lot of noise in the middle of the night.

Companies like ours would go broke if all we did was $95 site assessments, so please don’t misunderstand the reason for this Blog. My point is that there are easy enough ways to identify what that system is, and what your personal responsibilities are as a home owner. Ignoring that thing down in the basement almost always costs a lot more in the long run, than dealing with it head on.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy your great water!
