Water Filters: Why Reset the timer on your Filter
As the owner of a Water Filter it is important that as we all fall back an hour this month that you also remember to set the clock on your Filter. Failure to do so can result in temporarily poor water quality. If you are a Secondwind customer who has a Kinetico Filter or Softener installed, then this is not a concern for you. However there are a lot of Single Tank, Electric, Water Treatment Systems out there in the field and so this matter can be of huge concern to people.
Single Tank Water Treatment Systems clean themselves by Backwash/Regenerating at 2 am. During that time the Media in the Tank is stirred up and flushed out. In order to accomplish this and still deliver water to the building the Water Treatment System goes into bypass. This process usually lasts about 2 hours. If someone flushes a toilet or runs water Hot or Cold during this time period it is very likely that there will be a negative change in Water Quality.
Power outages can occur all through out the year. Most customers aren’t even aware of them. One way to stay on top of things is to check the clock after any major power outage, and always check the timer in the Fall and Spring when we adjust our clocks for day light savings time. Generally what will happen is that the clock will start creeping backward or forward just enough until one day you are either doing Laundry or taking a shower and all of a suddent the water gets lousy. This can take quite a while to flush out of your system, especially the Hot Water Tank. So, just be patient and it will pass! If your Filter System is for Primary contaminants like Nitrate/Nitrite, Arsenic, or Uranium failure to set the clock correctly is far more important!
