Summertime and the Livings….Easy???

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Another service call in that seems to happen more often in the summer is related to organics in water. Organics come from plants and leaves on the ground that form a sort of tea. The organics have a bad smell, sort of like a pig pen, and have a nasty taste like a wet band aid. Organics staining will also show up in Laundry in the area of the clothing were sweating occurs, like under the arms of your favorite shirt.

We run into these symptoms after the big summer thunderstorms and during the Spring snow melt. The rushing surface water and increased vegetation from summer will find its way into wells sometimes deep bedrock wells, but usually Dug and Point Wells, and into the home. Even the best Water Treatment Systems don’t perform well when Organics are present. The organics wrap around the Iron and Manganese in the water sequestering the metals from being removed while passing through the Treatment System

The best thing to do is to grade the ground area around the well, to keep the run off water away, keep the vegetation to a minimum, and increase the frequency of your Cartridge changes and Systems Backwash/Regenerations cycles to keep your systems cleaner. Water Treatment Systems for Organics do exist for more information go to our website or call us anytime for a free consultation.

So until next time, keep those Organics away from your well, and enjoy you great water!

Summers here and the livings, easy????

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Summertime is here and a whole new category of service phone calls seem to present themselves around this time of year. The biggest one is the puddle of water around the Water Treatment System that comes and goes from time to time. This is almost always brought on by the rise in Humidity levels in the Summer air. So many customers underestimate this problem. I have seen situations where people actually had a fan blowing on the system trying to dry it off. This only made it worse!

If your Water Treatment system is Pre-wrapped in a nice Sweat Jacket and your basement air is dry all year then you probably don’t suffer from this issue. But, for everyone else here are some steps that can help.

The best way to stop the problem is to wrap the Treatment Tanks with closed cell foam. I have actually purchased closed cell foam sleeping mats from a local hiking store, cut them to fit, and then used duct tape to seal them up. It works great! Just turn the tape to the back when you’re done for a nice professional look. You can also place a dehumidifier in the room. You will want to be sure that all of the doors and windows are shut, so as not to allow more Humidity to enter the room. The more air movement around the Cold Water Treatment System the more Condensed Humidity you will get. I will be writing more on Summertime service issues later this week. Until then, wrap those tanks, and enjoy your great water!

So, you own a Water Treatment System…

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Many people own Water Treatment Systems. It has become accepted in New Hampshire that if you own a home on a well then a Water Treatment System is going to be necessary.

To avoid future problems it is very important that you take ownership of your system immediately. Insist on a walk through from the sales person that worked with you. Make sure that you have command of the systems bypass, and a list of any maintenance procedures that you will be responsible for. Also ask about annual maintenance procedures and their costs. This will allow you to budget for the cost and stay on top of the scheduling, to be sure it happens on time.

Taking ownership of your Water Treatment System will help insure you of long term high quality water. So own that system, and enjoy your great water!
